受験英語教えて１１０番　No.191「each otherの使い方」

Q. 「私たちはディズニーランドでお互いに写真を撮り合って楽しんだ」① We enjoyed taking pictures each other at Disneyland. このようにeach otherを副詞として使えますか。

A. each otherは「お互いに」という意味から「副詞」と勘違いしている人も多いと思いますが、これは「代名詞」です。ですから①のような使い方はできません。もし正すなら、次の３通りのどれかが良いでしょう。
　Ex.1 We enjoyed taking each other’s pictures at Disneyland.
　Ex.2 We enjoyed taking pictures of each other at Disneyland.
　Ex.3 We enjoyed taking pictures with each other at Disneyland.
またEx.1でeach otherがpicturesと複数名詞を従えることから、each others’ picturesが良いのではという質問も受けますが、もともとeachは単数名詞を従えますので、each othersのように複数形を伴うことはありません。ここは勘違いしないようにしてください。
　上でも言いましたがeach otherはあくまでも「代名詞」ですので、使い方の基本的は他の代名詞と同じです。
　Ex.4 We have to help each other in case of emergency.「我々は緊急の時には助け合わなければならない」
　Ex.5 They smiled at each other.「彼らは微笑み合った」
ただ一つだけ注意が必要なのは、原則としてeach otherは主語では用いないということがあります。
　Ex.6 ×In our class, each other teaches English.「私たちのクラスでは英語をお互いに教え合います」
　　　⇒〇In our class, we teaches English with each other.
